Media Evaluation of Preliminary Task

In media studies we have been assigned the task of creating a collage magazine front cover and contents page. The magazine was to have similar conventions to a typical magazine front cover.

I accomplished the requirement of the magazine having the same conventions that are typical of a real magazine, for instance all magazines have a masthead. My magazine also had a masthead. The masthead is very important as it informs the reader of the name of the magazine. My magazine’s masthead was ‘WRC’ meaning ‘We are Cola’ the R in the masthead is a little play on word. The reason for choosing this masthead is because I believe it related to my target audience. Another similarity between my magazine and normal magazines is the fact that I have an original image on the front cover.

My magazine is targeted at the students age 15-18 the reason for this target audience is because they are at the age of taking an important exam. For example 15-16 year olds are taking their GCSE and these are important if you don’t decide to take further education. The purpose of my magazine is to help this generation pass and get the grades they wish for. On my media product’s front cover I give the target audience information on what the product is about, for instance there is little text in the products front cover. This is to tell the target audience about the contents of the product, and the products main feature.

My media product represents the generation of students that are close to getting jobs. The product represents the target audience as people that are ready to learn. The reason for this is because of it tells the world that the current generation want to carry on education and become better. I want my product to represent the target audience that way because I am part of that generation.

Technology is very important in media. In the process of creating my media product I used a lot of technology. For instance I used fireworks to create the front cover of my media product. The program was easy to use and there was no difficulty in creating the media product. The only problem I had in the technology aspect was the imaging as I had to add an original image in the product, the problem with this was that I didn’t know how to make the image look less digitalised. I had trouble using Photoshop and its features.


From the provisional task I have learned a lot of things I didn’t know about. I am hoping that all the new information that I have learned will benefit me in the main task. In the preliminary task I have discovered that I need to learn hot to use adobe Photoshop. The reason for this is because I believe it will benefit me in the main task. The main task will be easier if I learn to use this complicated program. In honesty I did go off task in preliminary task but I did get back on track and I am happy with what I produced in the preliminary task. It took a lot of work but I managed to pass.
